General Information

What are social clubs?

Social Clubs are a fun and engaging way for children to build social skills and make friends, while doing something they love!

Social Clubs are run from our Ballina hub and are based on activities such as Lego, Tech Heads, Art & Craft, Explorers. We have a range of clubs available; after school, at weekends and over the school holidays.

We understand the unique challenges children with a disability can face in a social environment. Practicing these skills in a small, familiar group, while being supported by experienced facilitators, can foster children’s confidence and self-esteem.

What To Expect

Below are a couple of examples of the different clubs we offer, what they entail and how they are facilitated.

LEGO

LEGO Club is a group activity held at our Ballina Hub. The session not only focuses on building Lego, but also fosters capacity building in regard to social interactions, turn taking, sequencing, role play, building confidence, learning trust and much more!

We have boxed sets including Technic, special interest sets such as Harry Potter, Star Wars and Jurassic World, plus a wall full of Lego loose parts for free building. We play fun Lego based games and challenges, and if it’s of interest, children can BYO their device to create Lego stop motion movies!

EXPLORERS

EXPLORERS is a group activity which involves adventuring out into the community and nature. The sessions focus on building confidence and capacity in regard to social interactions, in the community, as well as learning trust, turn taking, and much more!

Explorers meet at our Ballina hub and travel to activities such as visiting the Byron Bay solar train or the Wildlife Sanctuary, sand sculpting, nature play and science experiment days, farm visits and scavenger hunts. Travel and admission fees are included in the club price.

DUNGEONS & DRAGONS

DUNGONS & DRAGONS is a group activity for ages 13+ facilitated by our amazing Dungeon Master, Jess. All equipment is supplied for the club which is held at our Ballina hub. Dungeons and Dragons is best described as a collaborative adventure storytelling game where the Dungeon Master plays the narrator and supporting cast while everyone else plays the main character. It fosters social skills such as turn taking, teamwork, building confidence and more.

It is unique in that it builds confidence and self-esteem by enabling players to explore situations through the character of their choice. Players create their own character profile including their role and personality, giving complete creative freedom to perhaps explore personality traits quite different to their own.
