Although, there’ll likely be some last minute additions – so it’s always worth keep checking the What’s On Calendar – we are finally back up to PRE-COVID school holiday fun with +20 activities and events listed on quite a few days over the holidays!
An abundance of choices from crafty and creative, active and energetic, educational and entertaining and all-round inspirational options to suit families and kids from tots to teens! A simply sterling effort from local businesses and organisations to cater to the diverse needs and desires of locals and visitors alike.
So, without further ado, let’s take a look at all the wonderful activities and events that local businesses and organisations are putting on for kids and families to enjoy this school holidays.

Join the Tuff Nutterz family at Red Devils Park opposite St Finbarr’s Primary School in Byron with Tuffy’s Nest, Australia’s largest inflatable playground.
Immerse yourself in this inflatable wonder, filled with a whopping 1200sqm of pure bouncing adventure!
Open every day of the holidays – all ages welcome! Sessions are on the hour every hour between 9am and 4pm and you can purchase in 1 hour, 2 hour or full day blocks. Parents NSW Vouchers are accepted at this venue.
Circus Arts Byron Bay is a fully equipped indoor space offering a range of unique activities for ages 5 – 15 years old. Try Flying trapeze, Climbing wall, Circus skills, Aerial Skills, Ninja Play and Parkour to name a few. Join a 1/2 or full day class in their super active, super fun school holiday program. They also offer a magical indoor circus playground suitable for ages 1 -10 that ignites kids’ imaginations and provides many options for role play, physical activities, reading, experimenting and more. Socks required for playspace and session duration is up to 1 hr 15 mins.
Farm Kids Byron Bay is holding a number of their fabulous hands-on 3 hour workshops for kids with their exciting themed farm animal, insect or produce sessions. Over these Winter Holidays choose from Pigs, Bees, DIY Natural Products, Seeds and a brand new Nut Farming Workshop! Also on offer is their full day experience – Farm Kids Mini Farmers Program! Suitable for 5-15 y/o, this full day program introduces children to real life farming. They get their hands dirty and learn many aspects of organic and sustainable farming.
Byron Bay Skateboard School are offering their legendary School Holiday Skate Day Camp but be quick spots SELL OUT FAST!
These super popular Warehouse Day Camps offer a full day of skateboard instruction at their coaching facility in Byron Industrial Estate. A unique and fun experience for kids age 6 – 12, from beginners to advanced.
If you can’t get into a class – why not try their SUNDAY OPEN SESSIONS. A 2 hour skate session is just $20, open to all levels and are simply a time for you to come along and work on your skills – there will be no coaching.
I AM A GIRL | COME N TRY SESSION
The I AM A GIRL | COME N TRY SESSION Program with Byron Bay Basketball is supported by the NSW Government’s Strategic Focus on women and girls in sport and this FREE girls-only session is aimed at new or returning basketballers that want to learn some new skills, be active and have fun making new friends. Suitable for ages 4.5 – 18 years it takes place at the Cavanbah Centre on Wednesday 13 July.

Legendary Sand Sculpture Maestro Sandology Steve is holding 4 fantastic sand sculpture sessions down Belongil Beach these holidays on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 – 11:30. Learn how to carve sand like a pro in an unforgettable session where you will discover the secrets of how to make towers, archways, stairs, animals and balls out of just sand and water. Workshops take place on Belongil beach in front of the Treehouse restaurant so there’s plenty of free parking. Bright Lights Performance School is conducting their hugely popular school holiday workshops for primary and secondary age students. A mixture of all three performing arts disciplines: singing, dancing and acting, the workshop culminates in a showcase performance on Thursday 14th July at the Byron Theatre in the heart of Byron Bay. Ballina Fair Shopping Centre invite you to join them at their School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from Mon – Friday these school holidays for their Wand-erful daily workshops! Awesome Harry Potter themed workshops to keep you spell bound and need to keep coming back for more!!

The lovely Sher will once again be offering her super supportive and fun Holiday Dance Workshop at Dance Lab Studios on Byron Arts & Industrial Estate. The workshop focuses on key dance techniques of stretch, strengthening and choreography. One day only – Wednesday 13 July – with 2 sessions for two different age groups 7-10 years from 9.30 – 11am and 11-13 years from 12- 2 pm. Our lovely libraries have bunch of FREE creative options for you to choose from with Byron Bay Library offering Rock Cactus and Block Printing. Brunswick Heads library has a lovely craft workshop happening – Moroccan Lanterns with Henna Patterns a plus a visit the following week from The Wildlife Twins. You can create your own Time Capsule in week one and Pot Pourri holder in week two at Mullumbimby Library who are also continuing their regular Storytime & Babytime sessions.
Both Ballina & Lennox Head Libraries have a range of fun activities including a Drumming Circle Workshop, Beeswax Wraps plus Ballina Library is also offering Nature Brush Painting, Boxtopia and a Spy Themed Scavenger Hunt. Like Mullum, they too will continue with their regular weekday Story, Baby and Toddler Time session. Lennox Head Library is also offering Tie Dye A Tote Bag Workshop – my kids still use theirs from last time for their library books! Byron Youth Service have put together a super creative school holiday workshop program for these holiday. Kids age 12 -18 can enjoy a wide range of FREE activities including excursions to the movies to see Minions – The Rise of Gru, a Shredders Open Mic Session, Grounded – a ceramics workshop with a tour to Tweed Regional Art Gallery and Margaret Olly Art Centre in Murwillumbah, a 2 day Hip Hop experience including being part of a studio recording session at Alleyway Studios and a JarJum Day at The Pass with Delta Kay who is passionate about sharing her culture and protecting country. Bunnings Byron Bay are offering 2 FREE craft sessions on Tuesdays these holidays – with NAIDOC themed kids craft session in week one and Foil Fun in week 2. No bookings are required – just turn up and enjoy!
The Merringi Foundation are holding an inspirational Art & Cultural Event in celebration of NAIDOC week. Held at Crabbes Creek Community Hall – less than a 25 minute drive from Byron Bay – this event features local indigenous artists and musicians including Archibald Prize Winner, Black Douglas.. There is a dedicated section for kids activities with language workshops, painting, dance, song and games from 10.30am – 1pm. Running from 7 – 9 July, head on over to enjoy a morning, afternoon or evening of art, kultcha, dreamtime stories, weaving, food and fire.
The Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary offer an engaging and inspirational school holiday program. They have popular WILDLIFE GUARDIANS PROGRAM (Ages 8 -12) where kids get to spend the day with the keepers behind-the-scenes in the Animal Park. And for kids age 12+ , their KEEPER FOR A DAY PROGRAM where teenagers can spend a day behind the scenes in the animal park with a senior keeper and find out what working in a captive animal facility is all about. Australian Seabird & Turtle Rescue are holding their weekday Educational School Holiday Tours from 4th – 15 July.
Learn about seabird and sea turtle rescue, rehabilitation and release. The tour goes for approximately one hour and costs just $8 per person.

On Wednesday 6 July (there will not be ASTR Educational tour that day) ASTR will be hosting an interactive indigenous workshop run by Eli and Kris Cook, Nyangbai men from Bundjalung country. The cultural workshop includes smoking ceremony, story-telling, language and connection between people. The workshop goes for one hour and the venue now accepts card payments as well as cash.
The wonderful team at Bee Nourished Byron Bay have created a delightful and supportive workshop connecting with children through mindfulness to learn, breathe, play and meditate.
This workshop takes place on Wednesday 6 July and there are two age groups with a session for 6-8 year olds from 9am – 12pm and 9-11 year olds from 9am – 4pm. Activities include yoga, cooking, craft and nature play. Email Dan or Zoey to book your spot!

Cherry Street Sports has a tonne of fun happening these school holidays – just take a look at that list! Their back deck is a favourite amongst locals and visitors and overlooks the beautiful greens and surrounds, covered children’s playground and Ballina’s biggest TV!
Also in Ballina, the RSL are putting on a bunch of fun activities for the kids – from a Kids Trolls Theme Disco with Shorty Brown on Friday 1 July, a fantastic show from The Dinomanics on 7 July to end week one and then on 12 July Cirkus Maximas comes to town with an amazing show and workshop! Ending the holidays on 14 July with a FREE Wildlife Twins Show. Entry is free to some events and great value kids meals available but bookings are essential and please note: Parent/guardian must accompany children to all shows and activities.
The Palace Cinema Byron Bay is up with the latest movie releases and have some great family-friendly PG films showing now (I’m excited to see Minions The Rise Of Gru – I’m only taking my kids as an excuse to see it!!) Currently showing Minions The Rise of Gru, Lightyear and My Sweet Monster Visit Palace Cinemas for showing times and bookings.
The new Putt Putt at Ballina Tenpin Bowling is also on our list of must do school holiday activities this holidays and when better to go than in the school holidays when they have a special price on Tenpin Bowling too – just $16 per person for 2 games.
They also light up the lanes between 12 and 4pm and from 7pm onward for GLOW bowling sessions every day of the holidays. Plus, if you have little ones who want a go, they offer lightweight balls and bumpers/ramps so they can really enjoy a game too.
Please note bookings are essential as spots are filling up even faster as Lismore’s Tenpin is out of action.
Byron Theatre are thrilled to welcome The Beanies – as seen on ABC TV – to their stage on Wednesday 5 July for their brand new show EGG-Straordinary Day. Featuring confetti cannons, sneaky robbers, and VERY silly jokes The Beanies performance is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser for Mini-Beanies and their big people.
On 3 July there is an afternoon performance of Big Trouble In Nursery Rhyme presented by Bright Lights Primary Age Performance School and an evening performance of A Merry Old Farce presented by Bright Lights High School Performance Company.
Both shows promise to have laughs from start to finish – bring family and friends along and support our local youth performances.
Another show that promises huge belly laughs is Dandyman – For The Love Of It . A one-off show is taking place at The Regent Cinema in Murwillumbah on Saturday 16 July at 3pm. My kids have seen Dandyman perform at Soul Street – Byron Bays New Years Eve Festival and every year they ask will he be back as they loved his performance so much! Suitable for ages 10+, this fabulously funny, family friendly show, “For the Love Of It” features ridiculously raucous routines, fantastically funny feats of stupidity circus-inspired magical moments of mayhem, complete with goofy games, fun competitions, prizes, funny facts and very funny faces. Club Lennox Sports is similar to Cherry Street Sports with a whole host of fun FREE activities and events for kids and families to enjoy. Miss Beka will be creating Plaster Fun Craft with the kiddo’s and sharing the disco fun with Polly Esta. Dr Hubble’s Bubbles is back for 2 shows only at the Brunswick PictureHouse. This family friendly, all ages show is mesmerising – we took our kids a couple of years ago but I think we’re simply going to have to go again as Dr Hubble can make bubbles do amazing things.

Family friendly Markets will be happening in Byron and Lennox over the winter school hols with the quarterly Byron Beachside Market – a make it, bake it, sew it grow it market held on Saturday 9 July April on the Byron Bay foreshore east of the Surf Club. Open from 8am – 3pm this market showcases a diverse and exciting collection of high quality art, sculpture, ceramics, textiles, glass, home wares, fashion, craft, clothing and music created by local artists and designers as well as an array of services offered by our health and well being practitioners with over 200 stalls stretching over half a kilometre of beachfront at Byron Bay Main beach.
Byron Bay’s monthly market also takes place on Main Beach Foreshore, With over 300 diverse stalls from the exotic to the organic, this market also offers plenty of activities for the kids, beautiful displays of unique children’s clothing & toys plus lush food and live music! Get down there, stroll around and soak up the atmosphere. Visitors are welcome to listen to great music and enjoy incredible food.
The Lennox Community Market has returned to the Williams Reserve in Lennox Head on Sunday 10 July. Taking place on the 2nd and 5th Sunday’s of the month, these markets are a vibrant part of the Lennox community and a great day out for the family. There are kids activities as well as the skate park and a beautiful reserve to sit back and relax in while you enjoy good music and great food.
And let’s not forget you parents – whether holidaymakers or locals – it’s still school holidays and you deserve a break too.
