Byron4Kids What’s On Guide App!

How handy would it be to have the What’s On Guide appear like an app on the home screen of your phone?

Yep, that’s just what I was thinking. It would be so cool not to have to go to your browser – whether that be Safari, Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer – and type in using the tiny onscreen keypad and where I – to my great annoyance –  frequently press the delete key instead of the letter ‘m’ and don’t notice until I’ve finished typing and pressed GO!

Well, I’ll let you in on a little secret.

You see I have been doing some research into creating a handy app for

And during my research I discovered that it costs $99 USD per annum to have an app on the Apple Store (this is excluding creation and developer  costs!) and up to the same fees for Google Play .

Yikes! I mean I’m sure that’s cheap if you run an organisation but at the moment there’s just me and the website which means that in order to make it financially viable… I’d have to charge for it.

So then I got to thinking, what would somebody pay for it and why would they pay?

Currently we’re not at the stage of the What’s On Guide needing to send push notifications or any other fancy things that would make purchase of the app really feel like a worthwhile investment to the end user.

All that’s really needed, for now,  (who knows how things will develop in the future) is for people to have ‘click of a button’ access on their phone’s home screen to the What’s On Guide…right?!

So I had a chat with my awesome web developer who reminded me that the whole website is designed to be web-app capable but unless I was going to offer extended functionality with my app, it might not be worth be investing in it’s creation just yet but definitely further down the track.

However, he did supply me with an absolute nugget which I’m going to share with you now.

Some of you may already do this but I’m fairly sure that there are plenty of you that don’t and it is going to revolutionise your home screen!

Many of you will know about bookmarking, where you can save your frequently visited websites in your browser’s favourites tab or bookmarks bar so that you can access them with just a click.

Bookmarks make browsing your favourite sites much quicker but, what if it could be quicker still?

What if it could look like an app on your home page?  Then you don’t even have to go into your web browser and search through your favourites, you just click the ‘app-looking button’  on your home page and it takes you straight there.

Well, you can! Pretty cool huh!

And here’s how to do it… and it is SOOOOOO easy! Like 5 seconds easy!

But, the best person to explain it to you is Chris Hoffman from

This guy has put together ‘how to’ screenshot images for various smartphone browsers and yes, that includes Android, Apple and even Window’s phones!

See, look at my phone!! I did it for

It’s right there in the bottom right hand corner and it took me less than 5 seconds to add it!  All I have to do now is click on it and it takes me directly to the What’s On Guide!

Now I’m telling you about this from a perspective but clearly you can do this with any of your fave’s!

And the best thing about it… It’s FREE for you and it’s FREE for me!!

What an awesome outcome for everyone!

So without further ado, here is the link to Chris Hoffman’s awesome description of

How to Add Websites to the Home Screen on Any Smartphone or Tablet

Then all you need to do is go to and select the option (depending on your browser)  to ‘Add to Home Screen’ and hey presto… less than 5 seconds and it’s on your home page!

Hope this has made your day, as it seriously has made mine!
