General Information
Steve Machell has been sculpting unique creations out of sand in Byron Bay and around the world for over twenty years and offers a variety of exciting options for kids birthday parties, workshops and more.
Workshops
I start the day by building a feature sculpture before everyone arrives to wow them. To get the workshop started I do a quick demonstration showing a few different techniques on how to work with the sand. Then I help everyone create their own unique sand sculptures. The skills learnt on the day will remain with you for life, you’ll never look at sand the same way again!

Also available for private bookings (minimum group of ten).
Birthday parties
For birthday parties I build a feature sculpture before the party with a personalised birthday message. When the guests arrive, I do a quick demonstration on how to work with the sand, before helping everyone build some awesome sand sculptures. Fun for all ages, a great idea for kid’s birthday parties where the parents can get involved in the fun too.
Weddings
Sand sculptures provide the perfect backdrop for a beach wedding. A popular choice with couples is a castle with love heart windows and pairs of sea critters throughout. The choice is yours, with any personal touches or themes welcomed.
Proposals
Looking for a unique and unforgettable way to pop the question? Doesn’t get more romantic than a candlelit sand sculpture.
Festivals and Shows
I can bring the beach to your festival or show. As well as building the feature sculpture, I run a kid’s workshop and play space that is open the whole time. Always a crowd pleaser and a great photo opportunity.
